The founders and advisory board members of IndyEthnicFood (IndyEthnicFood.com) are pleased to announce its fifth anniversary. Designed and developed by Dr. Drew Appleby, Director of Undergraduate Studies in Psychology, Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis and John Baldwin, Director, Information Technology for Riley Children's Foundation, IndyEthnicFood has grown to become the premier, most comprehensive, and most up to date directory of ethnic food restaurants, festivals, and markets in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. IndyEthnicFood is the result of a "grass roots" partnership between Dr. Appleby and Mr. Baldwin. Drew began compiling comprehensive lists of the international and American regional restaurants, markets, and festivals in the Indianapolis area in 1999 and distributed them to a group of approximately 350 Indianapolis food enthusiasts via E-Mail. John converted these lists into a database system in the Spring of 2003 and connected it to a dynamic web site for the entire Indianapolis community to access and enjoy. IndyEthnicFood is a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation and has no commercial sponsors. Drew and John know that the Indianapolis community contains a rich diversity of culinary opportunities. They also recognize that many people, both in and outside Indianapolis, are unaware of this diversity. They believe that increasing the public's awareness of the quality and quantity of these culinary opportunities will produce greater support for those who provide them (i.e., the owners of our international and American regional restaurants and markets and the organizers of our ethnic festivals). This higher level of awareness will amplify our city's perceived sense of diversity, and this corrected perception will produce a greater level of recognition of Indianapolis as one of America's great metropolitan areas by both its own population and those who live elsewhere. As these press release was written, IndyEthnicFood contains 816 restaurants, 150 markets and bakeries, 141 festivals, 2,958 restaurant reviews, 2,654 recipes, and 697 patrons.
